Elton J. Head

HEAD, WILSON, BLAD, SCHAFER, EDWARDS

Highlands Ranch, Colorado - Elton J. Head was born on October 12, 1915, near Oakville, Iowa, the second son of John and Bessie (Wilson) Head. He graduated from Oakville High School in 1932. Elton married Stella Blad in Independence, Iowa, on December 2, 1939. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1946 after serving in Japan.
E.J. operated Head Stockyard in Lakota, Iowa, was assistant manager of the Jesup, Iowa Farmers Cooperative Elevator, and retired in 1977 from Diamond V Mills in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as first shift foreman. Since then he has lived in Sycamore, Illinois, Kingwood, Texas, Prescott, Arizona, and Littleton, Colorado. A member of the American Legion and Lions, he did a great deal of volunteer work, drove for several car dealerships and league bowled well into his 89th year. E.J. was loyal, intelligent, stoic, and proud of his longevity.
Elton was preceded in death by his wife, Stella, his parents, John and Bessie, sister, Pansy Schafer (Marion), and brothers, Lyman (Goldie Lotta) and Arlo (Addie Wilson) Head.
He is survived by his son, Elton L. Head (Kathleen) of Highlands Ranch, CO, daughter, Susan J. Edwards (Wayne) of Sycamore, IL, grandchildren, Christopher G. Head (Stephanie) of Highlands Ranch, CO, Robyn M. Head of Denver, CO , and Erin E. Edwards of St. Paul, MN, and great grandchildren Ian, Connor, and Kirsten Head of Highlands Ranch, CO.
Graveside Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2006, at Cedar Crest Cemetery in Jesup, Iowa, with Rev. Vicki Reece officiating.
