Independence - Russell Willis Greenley, 91 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died on Monday, February 4, 2008, at West Village Care Center in Independence of natural causes. He was born on March 23, 1916, in Independence, Iowa, the son of Russell Merry and Laura Jeanette (Main) Greenley. He graduated from high school in Independence, Iowa. On March 14, 1942, he and the former Doris Elizabeth Quass were married in Buchanan County, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1952. On April 2, 1953, he and the former Mary Alice Wood were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She preceded him in death in 1993. Mr. Greenley was an insurance agent in Independence with the Northwest Mutual Life Insurance Company for over 50 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Independence, the Independence Rotary Club, the Independence Masonic Lodge #87 A.F. & A. M., and the Gideons.
Mr. Greenley is survived by 1 daughter, Celia (Colin) Molzen of Taylorsville, North Carolina, 1 son, Duane (Patty) Greenley of Willis, Texas, 6 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Mick (Janet) Greenley and Tom (Beth) Greenley, and 1 sister, Jane Riedeman, all of Independence, Iowa.
In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Wayne, and a daughter, Esther, in infancy, 1 grandson, Luke Molzen, 3 brothers, Oliver Greenley, Vic Greenley, and David Greenley, and 1 sister, Edna Dodge.
Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the White Funeral Home in Independence with Evangelist Craig Mawdsley officiating. Casket Bearers were Matthew Molzen, Larry Karsten, LeRoy Greenley, Don Greenley, and Denny Gilson. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence, Iowa.
