Jesup- Velma Rose Emme, 90 years old of Jesup, IA, died Tuesday, February 6, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Long Term Care Unit, following a short illness. She was born May 15, 1916, at Littleton, IA, the daughter of Fay Spencer Crowell and Marie Henrietta (Fiddler) Crowell. She graduated from the Jesup High School with the class of 1934. On November 28, 1935, she was united in marriage to Fred E. Emme at the family farm in Littleton, IA. He preceded her in death in 1982. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jesup, IA and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Emme is survived by 1 daughter and son in law, Joyce and Alan Wright of Jesup, IA, 1 son and daughter in law, James and Vivian Emme of Hendersonville, NC, 4 grandchildren, Crystal (Gene) Fisher of Ely, IA, Craig (Cari) Wright of Jesup, IA, Suzanne (Robert) Pompei of New Kent, VA, and Christopher Emme of Charlotte, NC, 7 great grandchildren, Ryan Fisher, Chase Wright, Megan Weber, Molly Weber, Andrew Pompei, Steven Pompei and Emily Pompei, also 2 brothers and 3 sisters in law, Glenn (Betty) Crowell of Waterloo, IA, Lyman (Dorothy) Crowell of Independence, IA and Jeanne Fuller of Jesup, IA.
In addition to her husband Fred, her parents, 1 brother, Lester Crowell and 2 sisters, Viola Masters Holm and Grace Brown, preceded her in death.
Public memorial services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 9, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, IA with Rev. Kristy Parker officiating. A private family committal service was held earlier at Cedar Crest Cemetery, Jesup, IA. Memorials will be directed to the First Presbyterian Church, Jesup, IA, and to the Cedar Valley Hospice Office in Independence, IA.
