JESUP - Jeannette C. Caster, 86 years old of Jesup, IA and formerly of Osage, IA, died Friday, November 23, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center, Independence, IA, following a short illness. She was born February 7, 1921, in Black Hawk County near Jesup, IA, the daughter of Ralph Laird Edgerton and Mayme Catherine (Hallman) Edgerton. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School with the class of 1938 and from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1942. She did occupational therapy work at the Army hospital in Clinton, IA, during WWII, where she met her future husband. On April 23, 1946, She and Charles Francis Caster were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Cedar Falls, IA. They lived in Underwood, LaPorte City, Waterloo, Hazelton, IA then Dodge Center, MN, Jesup and Independence, IA before settling at Osage, IA, for 40 years. Charles preceded her in death on April 3, 1978. Jeannette moved back to Jesup in 2001 where she has made her home since. Jeannette worked as a substitute school teacher for many years, was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage where she was a 25 year member of the Bible sharing group she helped form. She had also served on the Osage Nursing Home Advisory Board. She was currently a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA.
Mrs. Caster is survived by 4 daughters, Susan (Donald) Cook of Westminster, CO, Sarah (Rodney) Bobst of Sebeka, MN, Jane (Mark) Crowell of Jesup, IA, Martha Caster of Waterloo, IA, 1 son, David Caster of West St. Paul, MN, 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Joyce Northey.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. – Monday, November 26, 2007, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, IA, with Fr. Kenneth C. Stecher, officiating. Burial was at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Osage, IA. Memorials will be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
