Independence - Robert B. Anderson, Jr., 66 years old, of rural Independence, Iowa, died on Wednesday, February 7, 2007, at his home following a short illness. He was born on November 18, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Robert Benjamin and Yva Merrill (Albright) Anderson, Sr. He graduated from high school in Audubon, Iowa, with the Class of 1959. He then served with the U.S. Navy in Southeast Asia. On November 23, 1963, he and the former Thelma E. Eiben were married in Grey Eagle, Minnesota. In 1974, Mr. Anderson completed his B.A. degree in physics at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was a quality assurance engineer at the Duane Arnold Energy Center in Palo, Iowa, until 1995. He then worked at Triangle Plastics in Oelwein, Iowa, and Toyota Financial Services in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before retiring in 2002. Mr. Anderson was a member of the Cedar Rapids Skyhawks R.C. and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 43 years, Thelma, 5 sons, John (Carol Ann) Anderson of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Robert (Sonja) Anderson of What Cheer, Iowa, Thomas (Jodi Lyn) Anderson of Chariton, Iowa, Garry (Andria) Anderson of Independence, Iowa, and Larry (Melinda) Anderson of Lovilia, Iowa, and 2 daughters, Vicki (Timothy) Moffatt of Irvington, Illinois, and Kimberlee (Doug) Wilson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, his half sister, Lura Works of Waverly, Iowa, and his step brother, Garry (Shirley) Works of Chandler, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his mother and step father, Rev. Loren and Yva Works, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Gertrude and John E. Eiben.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2007, at the White Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa, with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Casket Bearers were Kevin Dilley, Jim Kelso, Eric Pike, Matt Chesmore, Shadron Silberstein, and Mike Boldy. Burial was in the Quasqueton Cemetery in Quasqueton, Iowa. Military Rites were performed by the Cedar Rock American Legion Post #434.
