INDEPENDENCE --- Glenn W. "Pete" Crowell, 86, of Waterloo, formerly of Independence, died Friday, Feb. 15, at Lakeview Landing, Waterloo.
He was born Oct. 12, 1921, in Perry Township of Buchanan County, son of Fay Spencer and Marie Henrietta Fidler Crowell. He married Betty Louise Bayer Jan. 5, 1947, at First Presbyterian Church, Independence.
He graduated from high school in Jesup in 1938. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Crowell farmed near Littleton until 1955 when he moved to Independence. He was then manager of the Independence Liquor Store for the Iowa Liquor Control Department. He retired in 1985.
Survived by: his wife; and a brother, Lyman (Dorothy) of rural Jesup.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Lester; and three sisters, Viola Masters, Velma Emme and Grace Brown.
Services: 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Public visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Independence.
