WINTHROP - Mrs. Barbara A. Gritton, 75, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence after a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008, Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop, with the Rev. Kevin Jennings officiating. Burial: Fremont Township Cemetery, north of Winthrop. Visitation time: 4 until 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 18, and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fawcett Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Winthrop
She is survived by her husband, Dean of Winthrop; three sons, Michael (Rhonda) Gritton of Decorah, Don (Dawn) Gritton of Independence and Duane (Kim) Gritton of Winthrop; one daughter, Kathryn Gritton of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Steven, Diana and Taylor; and two brothers, Dr. William Cusick of Dyersville and Dick Cusick of Winthrop.
Barbara Ann Cusick Gritton was born Oct. 5, 1932, in Fremont Township north of Winthrop, Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Hazel Hickman Cusick. She attended country school until eighth grade and then graduated in 1950 from Winthrop High School. She married Dean Gritton at the Winthrop Methodist Church on March 22, 1953.
Instead of flowers, memorials may be given to local charities, the Cedar Valley Hospice or the Winthrop First Responders.
