Catherine Henz

for twenty years a resident of Buchanan county, passed away Thursday afternoon April 15, at 4 o'clock at the home on Chatham street, aged 74 years, 4months and 3 days. Mrs. Henz had been feeble since last September with ailments incidental to old age and her passing was hastened by a fall which she was the victim of on February 20 of this year, when she sustained a broken hip.

Since the accident she had not been able to be up except to sit in her chair a part of the time. The funeral was held Saturday, morning at 10 o'clock from St. Joseph's church. Frv. Father Rinert officiated and interment was made in St. John's cemetery.

Mrs. Henz was a native of Germany and a daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Nicholas Blitsch. She was born in that country December 12 1834 and came to America about forty years ago, the mother having died in Germany. She resided for a few weeks in Waterloo, then removing to Gilbertville. At that place she made her home for twenty years, at the conclusion of which period she moved to the Vicinity of Hazleton. Here she was a resident for nine years and eleven years ago came to Independence. This city had been Mrs. Henz home since that time. She was united in marriage with Martin Henz Aug 20 1868, the husband dying February 4, 1901.

Mrs. Henz leaves to mourn her death four children, Nicholas Henz, of Otterville; Mrs. D. Michaels, of Hazleton; Mrs. Peter Sloma, Oak harbor, Ohio. One sister and two brothers also survive. They are Mrs. Edward Hillman, Hazleton; Henry Blitsch of Dubuque and Peter Blitsch of Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Henz was a faithful and consistent member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and her death is mourned.
