OBITUARY: Bulletin Journal (Independence, Iowa) 7 Feb 1901

Martin J. Henz(Tschanhentz)
Who had resided in this city for about three years and a resident of the county nearly twelve years, died at his home on Chatham street Monday night at the advanced age of 81 years.

Mr. Henz was born in Germany November 11, 1819. He resided in his native land until nearly 40 years of age, when he came to America to find what the new country had in store. He first located in Illinois, later removing to this state making his home at Gilbertville, Blackhawk County.

On August 20, 1868 he was united in marriage with Miss Katharine Blitsch of Waterloo. Eleven years ago they went to Hazleton, where he was engaged in farming until the fall of 1897, when they came to this city, where they have since made their home. Mr. And Mrs. Henz were parents of five children, one of whom, Jacob, preceded his father to the grave. Three daughters, Mrs. Dominick Michels, of Hazleton; Mrs. Martin Trebon, of Fairbanks; Margaret, who resided with her parents, and one son, Nicholas Henz of Littleton with their aged mother mourn the loss.

The funeral service were held this morning at 10 o'clock in St. Joseph's church. Interment took place in the Catholic cemetery.
