INDEPENDENCE — Helen F. Randall, 93, of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 14, at Buchanan County Care Center LTC, Independence, following a long illness.
She was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Clarks, Neb., daughter of Walter Frank and Hazel Floy Goodell Rose. On May 21, 1939, she married Joseph William Randall in Central City, Neb. He died in 1991.
Mrs. Randall graduated from high school in Clarks and after completing her teachers training, began teaching country school in Nebraska. She and her husband farmed in Nebraska until 1947 when they moved to Buchanan County. She returned to teaching in the late 1950s and finished her bachelor’s degree at Upper Iowa University, Fayette. She retired from the Independence Community Schools in 1978.
Survivors include: a daughter, Laree Randall of Independence; and two sisters, Doris Travis of Independence and Donna Martins of Iowa City.
Preceded in death by: two daughters, Jeanette Randall, and an infant, Donna Lorraine Randall; and a brother, Frank Rose.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, with burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, both in Independence. Public visitation after 3 p.m. today at White Funeral Home, Independence.
Memorial fund: has been established.
