INDEPENDENCE - Glen E. Kress, 81, of Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Brandon Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday,at the White Funeral Home, Independence.
He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Buchanan County, near Rowley, the son of George Edward and Olive Elizabeth (Sloan) Kress. He graduated from the Rowley High School in 1944. During World War II he served with the Marines. On Dec. 12, 1947, he married the former Vaunda Louise Pauley at Nashua. They farmed in Buchanan County until retiring in 1996.
Survivors include his wife Vaunda; two daughters, Mary Ellen (John) Akerson of Raymond and the Rev. Carol Kress of Decorah; five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; two brothers, Don of Belle Plaine and Ernest (Wanda) of Winthrop; and one sister, Iva Olson of Independence.
