INDEPENDENCE - Garvie T. Crandall, 99, of Independence, died suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 12,2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the White Funeral Home in Independence. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call from 4 until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Independence Senior Center.
He was born Oct. 28, 1908, in South Dakota, the son of Clyde and Bertha Crandall. He graduated from high school in Rochelle, Ill. On July 6, 1932, he and the former Edith Akey were married in Mt.Morris, Ill. They farmed for a time. After that, Mr. Crandall delivered bottle gas and drove school bus for Independence schools before retiring.
Survivors include his wife of 75 years, Edith; two sons, Norman (Vernetta) of San Clemente, Calif., and Gary (Mary) of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
