INDEPENDENCE - Katherine M. Straw, 93, of Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center following a long illness.
Funeral service is 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 27,at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Independence. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Strawberry Point, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ella (Pettet) Forsythe. She attended Clayton County country schools. In 1930, she and Ralph Dalton were married in Strawberry Point and were later
divorced. On Nov. 20, 1944, she and R.E. Straw were married in Kansas City, Kan.(he died in 1975. Mrs. Straw was a seamstress for the W.P.A. during World War II, worked at Rath Packing Co. and Independence Produce, then as a housekeeper.
Survivors include two daughters, Monette (Gordon) Colton and Deloris Smock, both of Independence, seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
