INDEPENDENCE-Richard M. Stamper, 89, of Independence and formerly of Gilmore City, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a long illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at the Faith United Methodist Church with burial in Marble Valley Cemetery, both in Gilmore City. Friends may call for visitation from.6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11th, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence and for an hour before service at the church in Gilmore City on Saturday. The White Funeral Home of Independence is handling arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established.
He was born March 1,1918 in Pocahontas County, near Gilmore City, the son of Frank Robert and Ausie Leila (Crain) Stamper. He attended school in Gilmore City. On June 1, 1940, he and the former Dorothy Louise Rasmusson were married in Manson. They farmed in the Gilmore City area until retiring in 1976. Survivors include his wife Dorothy; four daughters, Carolyn (Gene) Lockhart of Commerce, Texas, Phyllis (Lloyd) Davis of Independence, Mary (Bill) Burkett of Cameron; Wis., and Jan (Mike) Brown of Humboldt; two sons, Bill (Linda) of Independence, and Steven (Kathy) of Gilmore City; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
