INDEPENDENCE - Marian Ackerman, 95, of Independence, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence following a short illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at the United Methodist Church in Rowley. Burial will be in Rowley Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 until 5 p.m. Thursday, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
She was born Aug. 24, 1912, in Moneta, Iowa, the daughter of George Elmer and Ida Mae (Pearson) Hiner. She graduated from high school in Ames, and then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nutrition from Iowa State University. On Aug. 5, 1936, she and Kenneth Kahler Ackerman were married at Nashua. Mrs. Ackerman taught high school level home economics and biology in Clemons and surrounding school systems, retiring in 1969.
Mrs. Ackerman is survived by her husband Kenneth; two daughters, Kay (Patrick Wills) Ackerman of Houston, Texas, and Jean (Jim) Cizek of St. Louis, Mo., and three grandchildren.
