INDEPENDENCE - Elsie M. Walker, 78, of Independence, died Friday morning, Aug. 10,2007 at the Buchanan County Long Term Health Center at Independence, after a short illness.
Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the First Baptist Church at Independence, with the Rev. Dr. David A. Larson officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, south of Oelwein. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein, and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Memorials may be given in her name to the Cedar Valley Hospice.
Elsie May Francisco was born Dec. 2, 1928 at Ingram, Va., the daughter of Samuel and Macie B. (Satterfield) Francisco. She married Max D. Walker on July 20,1953 at Kirksville, Mo. Elsie worked at Gibson's and later Pamida, at West Village Care Center, and was a co-manager of the Gayla Ballroom all in Independence. She had been a resident of West Village Care Center for 11 months and the last eight days at the Buchanan County Long Term Care Center.
Elsie is survived by her three daughters, Sandra (Richard) Hohl, Carla (Archie) Thomas and Melissa (Russell) Horn, all of Independence; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren; one brother, Noel Francisco of Martinsville, Va.; and three sisters, Ruth (Aubrey) Price and Belva Murphy, both of Danville, Va., and Betty Jane (Pat) Allen of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Max on Jan. 29, 2000; two grandsons, Justin Heims and Adam Thomas; three brothers, Pete, Bruce and William; and two sisters, Lucille and Rita.
