April 8, 1925 - March 12, 2007
In loving memory of our husband, father, and teacher. INDEPENDENCE - Robert Marshall Young, 82, of Hemet, Calif., where he lived for 27 years, passed away Monday, March 12,2007 at Hemet Valley Medical Center.
Robert was born on April 8, 1925 in Independence, Iowa. He worked as a school administrator for 30 years in the San Bernardino Unified School District. Robert served in the U.S. Navy for three years during World War II.
After the war, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Upper Iowa University, and a Master of Arts from the University of Redlands, California. In his professional life he was most proud of the years spent in educating and training mentally challenged children and young adults. The highlight of his youth was being a star member of the Independence High School football team, Class of 1943 the only undefeated football team Independence High School has ever had. "This above all, to thine own self be true."
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him for his strength of character, generous nature, loyalty, and sense of humor. It can be truly said that the world is a better place because he was in it.
He is survived by his sons, the eldest Jeffery M. Young of Prescott, Ariz., middle Timothy Lee Young, his wife Wendy, and their son Marshall, and Robert's youngest son, Scott Miller Young of Hemet, Calif.
He will be buried next to his first wife and mother of his sons, Gwendolyn Martha Young. Gwen was the daughter of Ervin and Addie Miller of Jesup.
Graveside service will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21.
