JESUP - William H. Paulus, 78, of Jesup, died Thursday, May l0, 2007, at West Village Care Center in Independence, following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, May i2, at the White Funeral Home in Jesup, with the Rev. Dawn Pedersen officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Crest Cemetery in Jesup, where military graveside rites will be performed by members of the Pump-Scheer American Legion Post 342.
He was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Oran, Iowa, the son of Henry and Rose (Geiger) Paulus. He attended the Fayette County country schools. On Sept. 5, 1952, he and the former Bertie Lou Pooler were married at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Mr. Paulus served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Jesup and was employed at John Deere in Waterloo. At the time of his retirement in 1988, he was a forklift operator.
He was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the Pump-Scheer American Legion Post #342, both in Jesup.
Mr. Paulus is survived by his wife of 54 years, Bertie Lou; two daughters, Laura Paulus of Cedar Rapids, and Rosalie Peterson of Galesville, Wis.; two sons, Ted (Donna) Paulus of Champlin, Minn., and Tim (Cindy) Paulus of Grimes; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Evelyne (Loren) Lickiss of Oelwein.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
