MINNEAPOLIS - Rickey Lee McMurrin, 49, of Minneapolis, and formerly of Independence, passed away April 22, 2007, due to a ski jet accident in Key West, Fla.
Rickey was born April 6, 1958, the son of Norman and Sharon McMurrin of Independence. He graduated from Independence High School in 1978. He moved to Minneapolis in 1980 and worked at RESTART; an organization that helps traumatic brain injured individuals, as a personal care attendant. Rickey was always one to commit himself completely with everything he did, with his gentle; caring demeanor. Rickey helped to change and touch many lives. Rickey worked at RESTART until 2000. While still ,working at RESTART, Rickey started his own cleaning business in the late 1990's and met his life partner, Ted Buhl.
He is survived by his parents, Norman and Sharon McMurrin of Independence; a sister, Joy McMurrin of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Greg McMurrin of Houston, Texas; his life-partner, Ted Buhl of Minneapolis; six nieces, Amber, Amanda, Nicole, Melanie, Desiree, Jenna; one great-niece, Christara and one great-nephew, Nicholas.
Rickey was preceded in death by a brother in infancy and his grandparents.
Memorial services will be held at Heartland Acres May 20, from 2-6 p.m., 2600 Swan Lake Blvd., Independence. Memorials may be directed to Norman and Sharon McMurrin, 1596 Otterville Blvd., Independence, IA 50644.
