INDEPENDENCE - Lois A. Smith, 93, of Independence, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center LTC in Independence following a short illness.
Funeral service is 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Brandon Cemetery.
White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial fund has been established for First United Methodist Church in Independence.
She was born Oct. 27, 1913, in Brandon, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Sophia (Schultz) Anderson. She graduated from the Brandon High School in 1930. On Dec. 10, 1937, she and John Theodore "Ted" Smith were married in Waterloo (he died in 1980). Lois was a homemaker and mother. She worked at the Red Rooster Restaurant in Independence for 15 years and was a private care giver in later years.
Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Sleeper, Karen (Jim) Connell and Diana (John) Smith Kurtz, all of Independence, and Mary (Sonny) Gilmore-Deke of Marion; two sons, Jerald (Dixie L.) of Waverly and Clifford (Pam) of Burlingame, Kan.; nine grandchildren, many great grandchildren, and several great great grandchildren.
