INDEPENDENCE - Charles E. Kress, 55, of Independence, died on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a short illness.
Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence. Burial will be in Brandon Cemetery.
White Funeral Home of Independence is in charge of arrangements where visitation was held Sunday.
He was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of Glen E. and Kirkwood. On July 10, 1972, he and the former Kathy Knutsen were married in Brayton, Iowa. They later divorced. Charles farmed in Buchanan County most of his life.
Survivors include two sons, Andrew of Cedar Rapids and Eric (Danielle) of Waukee; one daughter, Carrie (Ken) Gosnell of Des Moines; one granddaughter; his parents, Vaunda and Glen Kress of Independence; two sisters, Mary Ellen (John) Akerson of Raymond and Carol Kress of Decorah; his special friend Debbie Higgins of Independence; a niece and nephew.
