FAIRBANK - Evelyn W. Fette, 87, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Oran. Interment will be in St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Oran.
Friends may call from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 9, 2007, at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home in Sumner and for one hour preceding services at the church on Monday.
Evelyn Wilhelmina, daughter of Marvin and Alma Thiese Holtz, was born Feb. 23, 1920, at Guttenberg, Iowa. She graduated from Elkader Community High School in 1938. Prior to her marriage, she taught for a brief time at one of the rural Elkader country schools.
On Sept. 7, 1940, she married Walter W. Fette at Elkader (he died in March 2006). She and her husband farmed in the Elkader, Postville, and Westgate areas before moving to their present farm near Oran in 1957. Evelyn was a cook at Wapsie Valley High School from 1973 until 1985 when she retired.
Survivors include six children, Sharon Lowry of Carthage, Mo., Karen Zimmerman of Northfield, Minn., Lyle (Becky) of Torrance, Calif., Sue Fette of Fairbank, Jan Everhard of Fonda, and Jay (Tracie) of Sumner; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lillian Holtz of Sumner; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, Wayne Hegland of Minneapolis, and Daniel Gill of Storm Lake.
