INDEPENDENCE - Dorothy Bumsted, 83, of Independence, died Friday evening, April 13, 2007 at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence following a sudden illness. Funeral services will 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Reiff Funeral & Crematory in Independence with burial at 3:30 p.m. at the Rosehill Cemetery, Grundy Center. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Dorothy was born Dee, 9, 1923 in Beaman, Iowa the daughter of Roy E. and Gertie M. (Bockes) Leohr. She married Edward L. Bumsted on Sept. 24, 1948. The family resided in Des Moines, and Cedar Rapids until the death of her husband Edward in 1955 at which time they came to Independence. She was employed with the Gala Ballroom, the Independence Bakery, and Malone Creek Estate prior to her retirement in 1986.
Survivors include two sons Darrel (Darlene) of Independence, and Myron (Lori) of Macks Creek, MO., seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren; and a brother Leslie Leohr, Winthrop
