MANCHESTER – Erwin C. Ehrke, 91, died Friday evening, April 6, 2007, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester after an extended illness.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. Interment: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence. Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester, and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Erwin C. Ehrke was born Nov. 4, 1915, in Independence the son of William F. and Mary (Barske) Ehrke. He married Dorothy LeClere on Feb. 26, 1939, in Manchester (she died Feb. 14, 2000). Erwin worked on the ALCAN Highway in Alaska then served in Australia for two years with the Navy. He worked at Holder Locker Plant in Manchester and Independence. Dorothy and Erwin purchased Ehrke's H & N Market in Strawberry Point in 1959, and operated it for seven years. Erwin then worked at the Air Force Base in Colorado Springs until he retired.
Survivors include one son, Norman Ehrke and his wife Pauleene of Huntington Beach, Calif.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Family prefers memorials be directed toward First Lutheran Church or Camp Courageous.
