LAMONT - Funeral services for Esther E. Elizabeth Boyens were held Monday, May 4, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora, with the Rev. Ron Spears officiating. Burial was in Madison Cemetery. The Fawcett Funeral Home, Lamont, was in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Boyens, 85, died of natural causes Friday, May 1, 1998, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. She had been a resident of the Good
Neighbor Home in Manchester.
She was born Sept. 25, 1912, near Aurora, the daughter of William Joseph and Anna Marie Hahn Finck. She attended rural schools and graduated from Aurora High School in 1930. She then attended business school in Lamont for one year and worked for Leslie Knapp in a general store office. On Sept. 17, 1936, she married Raymond William Boyens at the Aurora Lutheran Church. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Lamont. Mrs. Boyens worked at several jobs after her family was grown. She worked in restaurants in Buchanan and Delaware Counties, provided child care for neighbors and worked in the kitchen at the Good Neighbor Home. She was a member of the Out of the Way Club and St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, John William of Bettendorf and Willis Raymond of Aurora; five, daughters, Joyce Anna (John) Schuldt of Winthrop, Mary Ruth Shannon of Hazleton, Thelma Martha (Ed) Dotts of Seligman, Mo., Grace Esther (Donald) Munson of Manchester and Helen Louise (J.C.) Milligan of Waterloo; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth Marie Finch Schabacker of Waverly; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond, and one daughter, Alice Dorothia.
Memorials may be made to the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Aurora.
