A.F. 'Frank' Craig, Jr.
INDEPENDENCE – Funeral services for A.F. 'Frank' Craig, Jr., will be 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the First United Methodist Church, Independence, with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Music will be by Mrs. Steve Bridenbaugh, organist; and Mrs. Frank Brimmer, vocal soloist. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, with Roger Willey, Bill Klotzbach, Lans Flickinger, Denny Wilson, Jim Sloan and Ron Wegner serving as casket bearers. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Saturday and anytime Sunday at the White Funeral Home, Independence.
Mr. Craig, 63, died Thursday, Jan.15, 1998 at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. He was born, July 21, 1934 in Buchanan County, near Aurora, the son of Arlo Franklin and Hazel May Gibson Craig, Sr. He graduated from Aurora High School in 1951, the University of Iowa in 1955, and the University of Iowa Law School in 1957. He began practicing law in Independence in October 1963.On June 26, 1959, he married Sally Jo Newman in Topeka; Kan. Mr. Craig was a member of the Buchanan Co. Bar Association, the Iowa State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Independence Rotary Club, Phi Betta Kappa, and the Independence Masonic Lodge 87 AF. & AM., First United Methodist Church, the University of Iowa Alumni Association, and the Friends of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He served on the Board of Directors of the Buchanan Co. Health Trust and the Independence Federal Bank for Savings and was a former member of the Iowa State Bar Association Board of Governors. He was legal council for the East Buchanan Telephone Company.
Survivors include his wife, Sally; three daughters, Laurie Craig of Cedar Rapids, and Susan Craig and Anne Craig, both, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; one son, Andrew Craig of Arlington Heights; his mother, Hazel Craig of Aurora; two sisters, Arlene Coffman of Potomac, Md., and Barb Roepke of Aurora; and one brother, Gene of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Wilbur.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
