Francis 'Dale' Voshell
INDEPENDENCE - Funeral services for Francis 'Dale' Voshell will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 5, at First United Methodist Church, Independence, with the Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Voshell, 72, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at Peoples Memorial Hospital, Independence, following a short illness.
He was born Aug. 21, 1925, at Iowa City, the son of Sherman and Florence (Taylor) Voshell. He lived in the Arlington area where he attended school. On Feb. 24, 1948, he entered the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict until his discharge Feb. 16, 1954. He returned to the Independence area where he owned and operated the Shell Service Station for several years. On Jan. 13, 1968, he married Myrtle M. Vargason in Elkader. He farmed several years near Elkader prior to his return to Independence, where he became employed at the Mental Health Institute. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Bechter-Boies VFW Post 2440.
Survivors include two sisters, Carol Peterman of Aurora, and Jeanette Davidson of Lamont; a half sister, Virginia Hankins of Littleport; and a half brother, Arnold Hamlett of Arlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Myrtle, May 17, 1986; one sister, Verna Estling;, and a half brother, Clayton Hamlett.
