AURORA - Funeral services for Janette T. Flickinger will be 11 a.m.Tuesday, May 5, at the Aurora United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Doug and the Rev. Alecia Williams officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, north of Aurora. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Monday, at Fawcett Funeral Home in Winthrop.
Mrs. Flickinger, 78, died Friday, May 1, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn., after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 10, 1920, at Aurora, the daughter of William and Stella Mosher Gibson. She graduated from Aurora High School and received a BA in teaching from Upper Iowa University, Fayette. On July 25, 1943, she married Delbert Flickinger at the First Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Flickinger taught elementary grades for 30 years in the Garrison, Stanley and Oelwein school districts. She was an athlete during her high school and college years, participating in tennis, basketball and softball. Throughout her teaching years, she coached girl’s basketball and was an avid sports fan all her life. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Aurora United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Delbert of Aurora; a son, Lans (Julie) of Independence; one daughter, Candace (M. C.) Chaplin of Adelanto, Calif.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Hazel Craig and Elva Murray, both of Aurora, and Leah Griffin of Lamont; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Earl Gibson; and one sister, Wilma Tripp.
