INDEPENDENCE - Memorial services for Ida M .Smith will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the White Funeral Home, Independence, with the Rev. Beverly Hughes officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Independence.
Mrs. Smith, 96, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at Peoples Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, Independence.
She was born Feb. 1, 1901, in Reinbeck, the daughter of William Riley and Nettie Ann Bratton Cramer. She graduated from Reinbeck High School in 1918 and completed her education at Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, in 1922. She taught in Wesley (1923), Bagley (1924), and Thompson (1925). On May 3, 1927, she married Raymond Clarence Smith in Lincoln, Neb. He preceded her in death in 1938. Mrs. Smith was a psychiatric aide at the Mental Health Institute, Independence, from 1946 until retiring in 1972.
Survivors include one son, Glenn R. Smith of Akron, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond; three brothers, Raleigh, Leonard and Roscoe Cramer; and two sisters, Ona Hoeg and Ora Cramer.
A memorial fund has been established for Peoples Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Center, Independence.
