George Thedens
ROWLEY - Funeral services for George W. Thedens were held Monday, Sept. 23, at the Rowley Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Ken Meissner officiating. Burial was in the Rowley Cemetery.
Mr.Thedens, 91,died early Saturday morning,Sept 21, 1996, at West Village Care Center, Independence.
He was born March 20, 1905, in Rowley, the son of Peter Clausen and Anna (Schleeter) Thedens. He attended the Thedens Country School and Rowley schools. On April 22, 1933, he married Grace Hilton in Jesup. She preceded him in death in December 1971. On Jan. 10, 1973, he married Gladys Moody McCormick in Rowley. Mr. Thedens farmed in Buchanan County until retiring in 1977. He was a member of the Rowley Presbyterian Church, the Holman Masonic Lodge #593, and the Declaration Chapter Order of Eastern Star #278.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys; one stepson, Ed McCormick of Maxwell; three stepdaughters, Ava (Dick) Lenssinger of West Des Moines, Shirley (Bill), Morrissey of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lois (Dick) Lockwood of Branson, Mo., six step-grandchildren; three sisters, Ann Jaeger and Frances Williams, both of Brandon, and Ida Meythaler of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Grace; four brothers, Ed, Frank, Rudolph, and Tony Thedens; and two sisters, Rosa Orr and Hulda Rosene.
The White Funeral Home of Independence was in charge of arrangements, where a Masonic service was held Sunday during the visitation.
