INDEPENDENCE - A Memorial Mass will be held for Alverna Sullivan Bohren at St. Stevens Catholic Church in San Francisco, Calif., with burial beside her husband at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma, Calif.
Mrs. Sullivan, 89, died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 1997, at State College, Penn., following a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 20, 1908, in Independence, the daughter of Dennis and Hanora Jamason Sullivan. She attended local schools and State Teachers College (now UNI) in Cedar Falls. Following graduation, she was employed at Farmers Bank in Independence for 10 years. On July 8, 1936, she married Frederick Bohren, who was from the Coggon, Prairieburg area. The couple later moved to San Francisco, Calif., where they raised one son, Craig, who is now a professor at Penn State in State College, Penn. Mrs. Bohren returned to Independence to live in 1993, her husband having passed away in 1978. Since 1995 she has resided in a retirement village in State College, Penn.
Survivors include one son, Craig and his wife, Nanette, of State College; one brother, Alfred Sullivan, King of Prussia, Penn., and. one sister, Donna Duffy of Independence.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick; and two brothers, Arthur Sullivan of Waterloo and Leo Sullivan of Seattle, Wash.
