INDEPENDENCE - Funeral services for Urban J. Kurt will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Aloysius J. Vorwald officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Monday at the Reiff Funeral Home, Independence, where there will be a K.C. and St. John's rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Kurt, 86, died Saturday morning, Nov. 15, 1997, at West Village Care Center,Independence,following a long illness.
He was born Feb. 8, 1911, in Cascade, the son of Peter and Mary (Hosch) Kurt. He attended St. Mary's Catholic Schools in Cascade. On Feb. 4, 1936, he married Frances A. Lasche in St. Peter's & Paul's Catholic Church, Worthington. The couple farmed in the Worthington area prior to their move to the Independence area in 1944 where they continued to farm. He retired in 1963, and they moved into town.
Survivors include four children, Richard of Independence, Dan of Bridgeport, Neb., Eileen Kirby of Independence, and Rose Ann Thoma of Jesup; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray and Lawrence, both of Cascade; and a sister, Catherine Miller of Monticello.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Frances, June 23, 1994; a great-grandchild; five brothers, John, Joe, Clarence, Leo and Ambrose; and six sisters, Margaret Kurt, Veronica Kurt, Leona Kurt, Helen McNally, Anna Lubber and Mayme Leibold.
