HUBBARD - Funeral services for Raymond Laverne Nichols were held Monday, Jan. 26, at Zion United Church of Christ, Hubbard, with the Rev. John E. Saxton officiating. Burial was in Hubbard Cemetery, with military honors by the Hubbard American Legion Post #4.
Mr. Nichols, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 1998, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines; of a heart ailment.
He was born June 15, 1915, in Hazleton, the son of Jay and Blanche (Farley) Nichols. He attended country schools and Hazleton public school. After high school, he worked for the railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1941 to 1945. On Oct. 9, 1945, he married Maxine Dunn in Manchester. Mr. Nichols worked as a mechanic in Strawberry Point, Elkader, Oelwein, Mingo and Radcliffe, before moving to Hubbard in 1961. He went to work for Hubbard Implement, where he remained until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Zion United Church Of Christ, Hubbard, and the American Legion Post 4, since 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Maxine; two sons, Kenneth (Sue) and Royce (Karen) all of Hubbard; four grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Harold) Breitsprecher of Hazleton, and Esther Betts of Oelwein; two sisters-in-law, Maurene Nichols of Blanchester, Ohio, and Alice Dunn of Strawberry point; one brother-in-law, Burnell (Rosemary) Dunn, of Strawberry Point; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Hilbert, Kermit and Robert.
The Boeke Funeral Home, Hubbard, was in charge of arrangements.
