W.Kenneth Mattingly
INDEPENDENCE - W. Kenneth Mattingly, 90, of Perry and formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Jan 13, 1998, at Rowley Memorial Masonic Home in Perry.
He was born Oct. 23, 1907 in Black Hawk County, the son of Erie and Jessie Calville Mattingly. He graduated from Hudson High School in 1926 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. On June 10, 1938, he married E. Ruth Briden in Cedar Falls. She preceded him in death in 1979. At the time of his retirement, Mr. Mattingly was a job cost estimator for Hoffman Brothers Construction in Independence. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Independence, and a 50-year member of the Independence Masonic Lodge 87 AF. & A.M.
Survivors include one daughter; Jane Ann Niswonger of Milwaukee, Wis.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister,Jean Holmberg, of St. Paul, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Charon Mattingly; and one son-in-law, John Niswonger.
Funeral services will be held at a later date. White Funeral Home, Independence, is in charge of arrangements.
