PARIS, Ill. - John Elledge Belgarde, 89, of Paris, Ill., died Saturday evening, Jan. 3, 1998, at Terre Haute Columbia Regional Hospital. Memorial graveside services were held Thursday, Jan. 8, at Edgar Cemetery in Paris. Sutton & Son Funeral Home in Paris was in charge of arrangements.
He was born Jan 7, 1909, in Independence, the son of Edgar and Faye (Elledge) Belgarde. He attended the University of Iowa where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity. He served as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and the Philippines. On Nov. 2, 1954, he married Felicia Jane Chittick in Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. Belgarde was a retired Southern District Manager for the California Department of Motor Vehicles. He was a member of the Sierra Club, Audubon Society, a 30-year member of the Humane Society, and a member of World Wildlife Society.
Survivors include his wife, Felicia of 806 Ten Broeck St., Paris, Ill. 61944; one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Marion) Brown of Long Beach, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one sister. Memorials may be made in his name to the Edgar County Animal Shelter, PO Box 381, Paris, Ill. 61944.
