FAIRBANK - Funeral services for Arthur R. Polege will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at St.John’s Lutheran Church, Fairbank, with the Rev. James Keat officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, rural Hazleton, with military graveside services conducted by the Fairbank American Legion Forstch Duffy Post 552. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Woods Funeral Home, Fairbank, and one hour before services at the church Wednesday.
Mr. Polege, 85, died Sunday morning, Oct. 12, 1997, at Mercy Living Plus,Oelwein,after a long illness.
He was born Sept. 2, 1912, in Fairbank, the son of Irvin and Mary Mueller Polege. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. On Nov. 10, 1937, he married Evelyn Wierck. She died July 4, 1957. He later married Mabel Curtis in February 1960. She preceded him in death Oct. 22, 1996. Mr. Polege had farmed, driven truck and managed Sunray Milling in Hazleton. He retired after managing the Farm Service Feed Store in Fairbank. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and a 50-year member of the Fairbank American Legion Forstch Duffy Post 552. Mr. Polege was a lifelong Fairbank resident.
Survivors include one daughter, Donna (Dale) Hughs of Hawkeye; one brother, Adolph 'Tuffy' (Elsie) of Maynard; four grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Agnes; his two wives; an infant daughter; and a brother, Walter.
