INDEPENDENCE - Funeral services for Dorothy M. Coonrad will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2, at St. John's Catholic Church, Independence, with the Rev. Aloysius J. Vorwald officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Friday and from 8 until 10 a.m. Saturday at the Reiff Funeral Home, where a Rosary Society, C.D.A. rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Friday and a parish vigil service at 7: p.m.
Mrs. Coonrad, 72, died Thursday afternoon, April 30, 1998, at People's Memorial Long Term Care Center, Independence, following a long illness.
She was born Sept. 27, 1918, in Buchanan County, the daughter of Daniel and Margaret (Schoenut) O' Brien. She graduated from St. John's High School. On Aug. 31, 1948, she married Orin Coonrad at Independence, where the family made their home. The couple divorced in 1988. Mrs. Coonrad worked as a self-employed housekeeper in the Independence area. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, St. John's Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Survivors include two children, George Coonrad and Carol Fratzke, both of Independence; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Orin, Daniel and Glenn; and four brothers, Joe, Norbert, Walter and Harold O'Brien.
