INDEPENDENCE - Funeral services for Helen Elizabeth McComb, formerly of Manchester, were held Monday, April 20, at Epworth United Methodist Church, with burial in Center Grove Methodist Church Cemetery, Dubuque. The Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Manchester, was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McComb, 97, died at her home Friday, April 17, 1998, of natural causes.
She was born March 31, 1901, in rural Peosta, the daughter of Rees G. and Elizabeth Sophia (Prussel) Rosser, pioneer residents of Vernon and Center Townships, Dubuque County. She was educated in Johnson School of Vernon Township; Epworth Seminary, class of 1919; and Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls. She taught in Dubuque County schools. On Feb. 14, 1922, she married J. Clifford McComb at rural Peosta. The couple farmed for many years. Mrs. McComb was an accomplished pianist, violinist and seamstress.
Survivors include one daughter; Dorothy May (James E.) Grawe of Independence and four nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father (1937) and mother (1949); her husband, J. Clifford (1969); and one sister, Harriet Griffith (Rosser) Zarifis (1979).
Memorials may be made in her name to Epworth United Methodist Church.
