INDEPENDENCE - Funeral services for Loren G. Brace will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 18, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Independence, with the Rev. James Fladland officiating. Burial will be in Mt.Hope Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. Monday and anytime Tuesday at the White Funeral Home, Independence.
Mr. Brace, 74, died Sunday, Feb 15, 1998, at Peoples Memorial Hospital, Independence.
He was born May 24, 1923, in Tingley, the son of Clarence Guy and Gladys Vivian Nobles Brace. He attended Winthrop schools. On April 15, 1946, he married Colleen Regina Scheer at Immanuel Lutheran Church. She preceded him in death in 1987. On Jan. 9, 1988, he married Shirley May Miller, also at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Brace was a truck driver and plumber before working in the foundry at John Deere Company, Waterloo. He retired in 1983. During W orId War II, he earned the Purple Heart while serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of, Immanuel Lutheran Church, the U.A.W. Local 838, Bechter-Boies V.F.W. Post 2440 and Sheehan-Tidball American Legion Post 30.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons, David of Cresco and Douglas of Waterloo; two daughters, Julie (Michael) Lenius and Janine (Alan) Kimball, both of Independence; three stepsons, Larry Miller of Oskaloosa, Allen Miller of Lombard, Ill., and Joel Miller of Marion; 11 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Pauline Brace of Winthrop; and two brothers-in-law, Jim Donnelly of Winthrop, and Ray Gates of Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; two brothers, and three sisters.
A memorial fund has been established.
