WAVERLY - Roland Herbert Clausing, 85, of Waverly, died Sunday, April 3, at Waverly Health Center from complications of pneumonia and congestive heart failure.
He was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Bremer County, rural Waverly, son of Erwin and Selma Brandt Clausing. On May 19, 1950, he married Erma Baumgartner at St. Sebald Lutheran Church, rural Strawberry Point.
Mr. Clausing served in the U.S. Army with the 115th Military Police in Italy during World War II. He farmed and had worked at Schield Bantam (Terex Cranes) in assembly, retiring in 1988. He then worked part time at Wal-Mart, assembling various items, retiring in 2006. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, and former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Artesian.
Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Sandra (Andrew) Jensen of Urbandale and Judith (Fred) Mittan of Cedar Rapids; a son, Michael (Roxanne) of Maquoketa; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; and a sister, Audrey Dettmer of Waverly.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Dorothy Steinbronn.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Waverly, with burial and military graveside rites in Harlington Cemetery, also in Waverly. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the church or Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
