SUMNER - Merwin Richard "Dick" Meier, 82, of rural Sumner, formerly of Readlyn, died Thursday, Dec. 16, at his home of cancer.

He was born Dec. 5, 1928, in Bremer County, son of Otto E. and Martha Judisch Meier. He married Glennis J. Spier May 29, 1942, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Readlyn. She died Jan. 5, 1994.

He graduated from Readlyn High School in 1947. He worked in Waterloo for several years and at Carnation Co., now Nestle, in Waverly, retiring in 1990 after 28 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn, where he served on council and helped with the food bank. Mr. Meier served on Readlyn's City Council.

Survived by: two daughters, Kathy Albrecht and Brenda Feckers (Dave Hunt) of Readlyn; a son, Rick (Lisa) of Sumner; a special friend, Pat Davis of Waverly; five grandchildren, Jaime McElhose, Mitch (Katie) Feckers, Amy Weiford, and Nicole and Dustin Albrecht; five great-grandchildren, Marshall and Caitlin McElhose, Kennedy Albrecht, Addisyn McElhose and Wes Weiford; a sister-in-law, Anita Meier of Sumner; and a brother-in-law, Bob Spier of Bondurant.

Preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Floyd Albrecht Jr.; a brother, Lavern; and two sisters, Elviera Hartman and Darlys Meier.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, Readlyn, with burial in church cemetery. Public visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Readlyn, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice.
