SUMNER -- Marvin William Thies, 78, of Sumner, died at home Tuesday, Nov. 12.

He was born Nov. 23, 1934, at home in Sumner, son of Arthur and Elsie Michael Thies.

He graduated from Sumner High School in 1951, worked at McAloon’s Grocery, then served in the U.S. Army in Germany with the military police and as a radio operator. He returned to Sumner and served with the Army Reserve. He worked for over 29 years at Chamberlain Manufacturing, Waterloo, as a machinist. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner.

Survived by: a sister, Lois (Norman) Sprinthall of Caswell Beach, N.C.

Preceded in death by: his parents.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial Union Mound Cemetery, both in Sumner. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.
