SUMNER -- Merrill George Kirchhoff, 88, of Sumner, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at the Hillcrest Home, Sumner.

He was born June 5, 1925, in Fayette County near Sumner, son of Henry and Lorena Boehm Kirchhoff. On Feb. 14, 1945, he married Evelyn Waschkat at St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner; she died April 7, 1997.

Mr. Kirchhoff graduated from Sumner High School in 1944. He worked for a time at McDonalds Farms, and from 1965 until retirement in 1992, worked for the Bremer County Highway Department.

Survived by: a daughter, Judy Kirchhoff of Sumner; and a brother, Clarence (Marga) of Waterloo.

Preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, Frank, Hollis, Robert and Elmer; and a sister, Lucinda Nuss.

Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hillcrest Home Chapel, Sumner, with burial in Wilson Grove Cemetery, rural Sumner. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Saturday at the chapel.
