WAVERLY - Erna Esther Schwemm, 100, of Waverly, died Monday, Feb. 22, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, of natural causes.

She was born June 15, 1909, in Maxfield Township, rural Denver, daughter of Herman and Martha Hoppenworth Blasberg. She married Henry Schwemm on Dec. 6, 1934, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Maxfield. He died March 18, 1994.

Mrs. Schwemm and her husband farmed southwest of Tripoli and later moved to a farm west of Readlyn, retiring from farming in 1958. She worked in the laundry department at Lutheran Children’s Home, Waverly, for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly.

Survived by: a sister, Lorena Thurm of Denver; two brothers, Edgar (Melva) Blasberg of Waverly and Vernon (Allene) Blasberg of Denver; and two sisters-in-law, Lavera Blasberg of rural Waverly and Erna Blasberg of Tripoli.

Preceded in death by: a sister, Leona Lau; three brothers, Roland Blasberg in infancy, and Alwin and Alfred Blasberg; and two brothers-in-law, Henry Lau and Lorraine Thurm.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly.
