READLYN - Naomi Louise Stumme, 88, of Readlyn, died Sunday, Jan. 3, at Tripoli Nursing Home, Tripoli.

She was born May 9, 1921, near Tripoli, daughter of Harry F. and Gertrude M. Gunsalus Schmidt. She married Harry L. Meyer on July 3, 1939, in Bethany, Mo. He died May 7, 1964. She married Burton C. Stumme on May 24, 1969, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Readlyn. He died in 1995.

Mrs. Stumme and her first husband farmed in the Spring Fountain area in rural Sumner. She later moved to Sumner and worked for the Sumner Variety Store. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Readlyn, and belonged to the church's Ladies Aid. She volunteered numerous years for the American Cancer Society and also for the Allen Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Waterloo.

Survived by: two stepdaughters, Dianna (Ron) Moeller of Mason City and Karen (Terry) Dorn of St. Louis Park, Minn.; a stepson, Mark (Tracey) Stumme of Decorah; eight grandchildren, Michael (Patricia) Moeller, Gregory Moeller, Jennifer (Stefan) Gerhard, Stefan Dorn, Kristin Dorn, Sarah Stumme, Ben (Amanda) Horsfall and Mallory Horsfall; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Hills of Tripoli, and Helen Walker of Johnston; many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Readlyn, with burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Spring Fountain, rural Sumner. Public visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Readlyn, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to Tripoli Nursing Home, Cedar Valley Hospice, St. Paul Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

Naomi is remembered for her talented needlework, whether it be quilting, crocheting, knitting or embroidery. Gardening and an appreciation for nature were dear to her heart, especially her feathered friends.
