SUMNER — Cletus Anton Miller, 82, of Sumner, died Tuesday, April 9, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, of complications from a fall at his home.

He was born June 24, 1930, on the family farm north of Sumner, son of Ernest and Rena Knief Miller. On June 16, 1956, he married Darlene Niemeyer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sumner. She died Feb. 16, 2007.

Mr. Miller graduated from Sumner High School in 1949, then served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He farmed the family farm for many years and was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sumner. He was past president of the Sumner School Board.

Survived by: three sons, Mark (Lisa) and James (Sara), both of Sumner, and Daniel (Elizabeth) of Purcellville, Va.; four daughters, Sylvia (Tom) Schuh of Edgar, Wis., and Susan (Phil) Niedert, Karla (David) Blume and Kim (Dan) Ellis, all of Sumner; 23 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Leslie O. (Ruth) of New Hampton and J. Leo of Orlando, Fla.; and a sister, Vera Winter of Waucoma.

Preceded in death by: two brothers, Elmer and Ray; a sister, Lorinda Meyer; and four infant siblings.

Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, with burial in Wilson Grove Cemetery, both in Sumner. Military rites will be conducted by Thomas E. Woods American Legion Post 223 of Sumner. Visitation from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
