WAVERLY — Marlys Marie (Gade) Benschoter, 80, of Waverly, died Thursday, April 25, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, following a lengthy illness.

She was born Oct. 13, 1932, on a farm west of Sumner, daughter of Fred August and Alvina Anna Hagen Gade. She married Richard Darrell Benschoter on April 4, 1954, at 1st Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waterloo.

She graduated from Waverly High School in 1950. She worked as a telephone operator in Waverly and later became the bookkeeper for the family business, Gade’s Appliance & Carpet Corner. Mrs. Benschoter was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly. Survived by: her husband of Waverly; three sons, Daniel (Terri) of Waverly, Douglas (Ann) of Delafield, Wis., Stephen (Deb) of Waterloo; and a daughter, Gail Benschoter of Waverly; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two sisters-in-law, Nancy Gade and Bernice Gade, both of Waverly.

Preceded in death: an infant son, Dale Allen; three brothers, Duane, Wayland and Harold.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in Harlington Cemetery at a later date. Visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials: may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran School or the Waverly Area Veterans Post.
