WAVERLY -- John F. Droste, 89, of Waverly, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

He was born Jan 24, 1924, in Waverly, son of Arthur Frederick William and Charlotte Anna Carolina Wilkens Droste. On April 1, 1945, he married Wynona “Connie” Concannon at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly. She died in 2004.

Mr. Droste graduated from Waverly High School. He was dairy farmer, carpenter, mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, and was a national cattle judge for more than 70 years. He also was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly.

Survived by: three daughters, Nancy Kay (Richard M.) Fischer of Clear Lake, Mary Jo (William F.) Hennings of Frankfort, Ill., and Sherry Rae (Jeffrey D.) Lehman of Denver; two sons, James Paul (Shelley L.) of Worthington and Robert John (Debra S.) of Waverly; 13 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Boeckmann and Charlotte (James) Menzel.

Preceded in death by: his parents; a son, John Frederick Jr.; and two daughters, Terry Jane and Kathy Lynn.

Services: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly; visitation from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Sunday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly.

Memorials: may be directed to the family to go to the Bremer County 4-H Fair.
