SUMNER — Eugene Nicholas Wagner Sr., 82, of Sumner, died at home Thursday, Sept. 5.

He was born Jan. 26, 1931, in Empire, Minn., son of Ludwig and Anna Schiller Wagner. He married Carol A. Rosenow at Morristown, Minn., on Nov. 12, 1966.

Mr. Wagner attended school in Randolph, Minn., and served with the U.S. Army. He worked for the railroad for nine years, a service station in Minnesota for a brief time, and worked for the Sumner Municipal Light Plant for 30 years, retiring in 2002. He and his wife also served as custodians at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Sumner, for 28 years. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Survived by: his wife; three daughters, Peggy (Daryl) Eichenberger of Montezuma, Susan Wagner of Waverly and Marcene (Mike) Linder of Farmington, Minn.; six sons, Gene Jr. (Mary) Wagner of Osage, Chris Wagner of Waverly, Kenny (Cheryl) Hankia, Ronnie Hankia and Randy (Vicki) Barker, all of Farmington, and Mike (Jenny) Barker of Faribault, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a brother, Joe (Geri) of Lakeville, Minn.; three sisters, Georgianna Knutson of Phoenix, Dorothy (Bill) Sensibaugh of Shakopee, Minn., and Odelia Schram of Brainerd, Minn.; a brother-in-law, LeRoy Rother of Vermillion, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Delores Wagner of Northfield, Minn.

Preceded in death by: his parents; four brothers, Gerald, and three infants; and two sisters, Rita and Delores.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Union Mound Cemetery, both in Sumner. Military rites will be conducted by Thomas E. Woods Post 223 American Legion of Sumner. Visitation from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Becker-Milnes Funeral Home, Sumner, and for an hour before services Monday at the church.
