WAVERLY -- Elaine Ann Norman Kosbau, 86, of Waverly, died Sunday, Sept. 15, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, from complications of ovarian cancer.

She was born June 10, 1927, in Cedar Rapids, daughter Arthur and Bess Strang Norman. On Aug. 18, 1947, she married Paul Shager Kosbau in Cedar Rapids. He died Sept. 29, 1962.

Mrs. Kosbau graduated in 1945 from Roosevelt High School, then attended the University of Iowa. She was secretary at the Waverly High School for two years before starting a family. She then attended Wartburg College and earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1965. She taught for 2 ½ years in Denver, and then transferred to Waverly, where she taught fourth grade at both Southeast and Irving for a total of 24 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly.

Survived by: three daughters, Susan (Don) Mariano of White Plains, N.Y., and Jo (Steve) Corson and Jean (Tim) Kuethe, both of Waverly; a son, David (Diane) of Brookings, S.D.; four grandchildren, Jenny (Ryan) Bauer and Jill Kosbau, both of Brookings, Nikki (Zack) Ladage of Cedar Falls and Chris (Ashley) Corson of Waverly; six great-grandchildren, Jase, Kyle and Will Bauer, Tristan and Brileigh Corson, and Emerson Ladage; a brother-in-law, Ralph Kosbau of Marshalltown; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Waltz of Brookings and Jo (Norm) Fintel of Simpsonville, S.C.

Preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers-in-law, Howard (Gail) Kosbau and Wayne Waltz; and two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Krueger and Etta Kosbau.

Services: 11 a.m. Thursday St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Harlington Cemetery, both in Waverly. Visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

Memorials: may be directed to the family for later designation.
